Workplace Law evolves

In 2003, Workplace Law was born. We were one of the first law firms to exclusively advise and act for employers...our tagline at the time said it all “Your partner in workplace relations”.

Over the years our areas of expertise have expanded beyond employment related issues, to include work health and safety and defendant workers compensation insurance work.

In September 2016, changes to workers compensation claims and litigation management, together with the increasing frustration from our employer clients about the workers compensation schemes caused us to consider how we could best help employers. We concluded that there were better ways we could provide legal assistance, guidance and representation to Australian employers when it came to protecting their interests and managing their workers compensation issues. So, we decided to cease doing any further work for workers compensation insurers and instead focus on our long-standing relationships with our employer clients. It wasn’t an easy decision to ‘say goodbye’ to a lucrative insurance practice but, it was the right decision to ensure we could always prioritise our employer clients and help them without any interference.

At the same time, like any well run and ambitious business, we needed to replace what we had walked away from.  It was at this moment that we decided to back ourselves and our skills by following one of our other professional passions…sports law.

We are proud of our long running Champions Program that commercially supports athletes, sports clubs and leagues at all levels across Australia. A sports law practice providing legal advice to the sports industry is a natural extension to that.

Fast forward to July 2024, we now have one of Australia’s leading sports law practices with a client base comprising of sporting clubs, associations and leagues from community to national levels.

We continue to love the challenge of helping our employer clients navigate their way through the ever-increasing financial, operational and emotional burdens placed on them by Australia’s governments and legislation. So, our commitment to our growing employment, industrial relations and WHS practices remains steadfast.

With this evolution in what we do as lawyers, it seemed the perfect time to introduce a new tagline that simply answers what we do and who we are...we do all things connected with your workplace (as we have done since 2003), we do all things connected with the business of sport and most importantly…we remain your trusted legal partner.
